One year. The full arc of bringing a medical device to market.
Four cornerstone courses move every student from discovery through design to product development, alongside engineers, clinicians and investors actively building the industry.
Discover
More than a hundred hours shadowing clinicians at Rex, WakeMed and Duke. Students learn to see unmet needs the way working physicians do.
Design
Translate needs into prototypes. Form companies. Reduce technical and business risk through structured experiments.
Develop
Take a device from prototype toward a regulatory and manufacturing pathway. Culminates in the MedTech Showcase.
You learn from the people building the industry, not reading about it.
Every cornerstone course is led by engineers and scientists from industry: BD, Boston Scientific, Gilero, Biomerics. They bring guest lecturers, venture capitalists, and real product problems into the classroom every week.
Meet the faculty →“The MedTech Experience is nothing short of rewarding.”
A network of clinical, industry, and venture partners.
Students work alongside UNC Health, WakeMed, BD, Boston Scientific, Cook Medical, Siemens Healthineers, the North Carolina Biotechnology Center and others throughout the year.

Applications open for the Class of 2028.
Priority deadline: January 12, 2027. Program begins June 1, 2027.
